Sanborn Fire Insurance Map, Sheet 165

This map shows the location of the Grand Rapids Gas Light Company's cylindrical gasometers, the background subject of Alten's 1905 View of the Gas Works from Lower Island on the Grand, Volume 2, 1912. Located along Wealthy Street, these would supply gas to the city's lights until the early 1930's.
