This painting hung for years in the early part of the twentieth century in Jandorf's bakery and candy store in Grand Rapids. It was likely purchased by Jandorf's Catering Company along with two commissioned lunette murals that also hung in the store. It is pictured in the Mapes and Travis, "Pictorial History of Grand Rapids" pg. 30.
Alten exhibited a painting titled, "A Bushel of Lilacs" at the Toledo Museum in 1902, and it is likely the painting shown here.
