"A Foggy Day -20-" is written in Alten's hand on the frame verso, as well as an early Hefner Gallery sticker. On the paper's verso is an unfinished watercolor, "Lake Michigan Dunes"
The setting of "A Foggy Day" is a view of the old fountain (now removed) at what is now Veteran's Memorial Park in downtown Grand Rapids. At the approximate local of the old fountain, now stands two stone veteran's memorial pillars, (not seen here) designed by Alten's son-in-law, Ralph Demmon. First Park Congregational Church is seen in the background of this watercolor through the fog.
