Historical Context
The setting of "A Foggy Day" is a view of the old fountain (now removed) at what is now Veteran's Memorial Park in downtown Grand Rapids. At the approximate locale of the old fountain now stand two stone memorial pillars (not seen here), designed by Alten's son-in-law, Ralph Demmon. First Park Congregational Church is seen through the fog in the background of this watercolor.
