The March 27, 1914 Grand Rapids Press newspaper article describes this painting as " ...being a study of the tower clock on Campau Square seen through a snowstorm."
Another view of the tower clock, but not painted during winter, is seen in The Old Tower Clock (MICS234). That canvas on board is likely a study for this painting which was exhibited at the National Academy of Design.
