Signature Details
Although exhibited in 1998 under the title, "Reflections." Alten titled this painting on the stretcher in his own cursive hand, in graphite, "Massachusetts/Fishing Boats at Rockport."

The fisherman's shack seen in this painting is well known to painters and students of American art as, "Motif Number 1." The shack was destroyed by a storm in 1978, but an exact duplicate was later built on the same spot.
